An Open Letter to my Sister on the Eve of her Becoming a Mother

Dear Sister,

Tomorrow you will be a mother. Your life is going to change so much. You will be amazed at the parts of your personality that come out that you may have never know existed. You will become even stronger and filled with love than ever before. That pure raw and protective love that is saved for your children and it will just sneak up on you the moment you see your new baby for the first time.

I am no expert mama, honestly, I do not think anyone is an expert parent, but here are some little bits of advice I do have as you begin this motherhood journey, based on my own experiences.

Despite how much my mind has been evolving, something else was not. Rather than letting myself FEEL my emotions, I recently discovered that I had simply been looking at any emotion deemed undesirable and "paradigm shifting" it into a positive thought instead. Which is awesome and a helpful skill to have, but not when you are suppressing the ability to let yourself FEEL.  Instead of feeling, working through the emotion, and then moving on from it, I was not even allowing myself to recognize the emotion other than something that needed to be changed, immediately.  I did not want to complain or plant negative thoughts into the Universe. I only wanted to share joy and love and felt great that I had the capability to transform anything less than perfect into a learning experience.

Today began my first day of a 90 day therapy session. And I already cried. On the very first day, the first hour, the time that was only ment at to be a "get to know you" phase.
